"We won't have to go to the store ever again."

That is what Kiki said after planting our small garden yesterday.

He and Bev have been the most excited about it. I am hoping it will get them excited about eating veggies. We did pumpkins and sunflowers, squash, carrots, corn, beans, peas, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, italian parsley and basil, and strawberries. We want a few more things, but that will be another day.
They just love getting in the dirt--they especially loved watering.

As you can see by the look on her face, she didn't quite get into the activity.
This girl loves getting those toes in some dirt.
As he planted the beans, Kiki told them to "grow really big."
We only had one casualty--I don't know if she fell asleep because she was tired or bored.
This garden should be a fun adventure. I have really never done a formal garden before, so we will see if we have success. I've got to get a zucchini plant, that way we know we will produce something.

Gardens are so fun! Caleb especially loves to garden with me. When you get some squash (is it yellow squash?) let me know and we have a yummy muffin recipe for squash muffins. We have pumpkins, squash, zucchini, tomato, watermelon, cantaloupe, sunflowers and a bunch of other flowers. From the sound of your garden it is no small garden, you will have lots of fun with it. Good luck! -Diedre

I don't dare plant my garden yet, as this weather is so unpredictable. I'm very impressed with you! Did you get Kathryn's graduation announcement? I'm so proud of her. We should plan another "buddy" night soon to celebrate.

We had our full backyard in a garden for several years, i.e. corn, tomatoes, beans, peas, lettuce, carrots etc. Lots of fresh vegetables and canning during those years. Maybe that is why the kids still actually enjoy salads. Hope it works out that way for you too. Nothing better than a fresh tomato from the garden. Lots of work, but also lots of rewards.

Love Christian's comment about not having to go to the store.
Hope the weather's good to it while you are in Hawaii.
